supermarches

so i'm not crazy about french people, but i'm madly in love with their grocery stores.
my obsessions:

1. fresh pasta! packaged in a little box in the refridgerated section, cooks in three minutes in boiling water, and tastes fantastic with the jar of barilla tomato sauce (premade shit here isnt like premade shit in america...they know what they're doing) you can taste every ingredient and oh my god its fantastic- although a triangle of paremesan is 27 euros? pfft
2. tzatziki sauce! where can you find that in a grocery store in mississippi? my great grandparents would be very happy.
3. cured italian ham AND DUCK! they're nuts!
4. jars of bernaise, tartar, poivre, and aioli that taste like you just made it yourself but didnt have to do any of the work. i put that shit on litererally anything and everything i have in my fridge cubby.
5. magnificent meat selections- i could stew a bunny if i wanted
6. butter. butterrrrrr. i'm working on some flecked with sea salt now. it. is. magestic.
7. not to mention the cheese! oh god the wall of cheese. it overwhelms and excites.
8. cokes taste better here too? why?

well its wine time.

(jump up in the air and stay there)

outside le musee des beaux arts (moche = ugly)

works in progress

"i know what you did last summer"

nasty

i've decided. "this too shall pass" around my wrist. picture is just an example. oh my god. i cannot wait.

world sick

today is sunday. i slept more than twelve hours; i've gotten really good at that. but my dreams keep getting weirder and weirder. sea monsters attacking me in restaurants, romantic text messages, saggy tits, old ladies gnawing on my limbs, sex i've already had, leeches, and people laying on my floor touching me.

yesterday i ate mcdonalds and went shopping. bought some incredibly dainty flats and an adorable floral jumper- i thought it was a dress when i bought it. the shorts kind of throw me off so i might change it into something else. i cant wait for springtime and being "tan" and not having to wear jackets/tights. i need to find a thrift store here and a place where i can eat moules frites.

today, i ended up at the musee des beaux arts. too many people and too many weird looks- my outfit is kind of strange today. so i rushed through the rodin exhibit and got out of there. almost bought some postcards, then remembered i can't send them to whom i wanted. walked around some more, got accosted by homeless men for cigarettes. bought a coke and discovered that there are a few places open today: a tabac, a few cafes (only for dinner), and a sex shop! thanks, angers.
its a really ugly day, and i like it, but i hope the sun comes out tomorrow. that makes it easier to get out of bed. the light over my sink is broken, but i'm scared to ask the nuns to fix it because i think they think i'm a slut for letting thibault walk me to my room.

tonight, i'll probably try to trick hulu into thinking i'm in america, drink some wine, make some dinner, and maybe buy a movie on itunes. fascinating lolz. i need a hair cut. suggestions? i'd like something new, but long hair is like a comfort blanket.

listening to joanna newsom, broken social scene, neutral milk hotel, the morning benders and yo la tengo alot recently.

somebody needs to send me some mail. i'm dying for my next five sandman books....
i might reread the ones i just finished. four and five were fantastic, and sartre is a little too real for me right now. knowwhati'msayin?
xoxo

ca m'est egal

Pros:
1. les galeries lafayette- better than saks.
2. food: the best bread, meat, cheese, pâté, wine, beer with lots more alcohol, and amazing sauces
3. walking everywhere
4. theres a mcdonalds
5. my dorm smells like sweet bread in the mornings
6. the oldness
7. babies everywhere (tic toc tic toc....)
8. train station a block away when i get the urge to split
9. soft (chill bar)
10. tabac's (cigs, stamps, mags, and drinks in one place)
11. everyone smokes cigarettes, and american spirits are the same price as camels!
12. perfect wine bottle opener, complete with mini knife to cut the foil- hands down best purchase so far (aside from the longchamp that is...)
13. Zara shoes
14. hilarious usage of english words: shampooing for shampoo, chicken shake for chicken tenders
15. having enough time to rediscover my nail polish fetish
16. going to the primavera sound festival
17. thibault, my favorite douche bag and owner of a sailor suit and a tv

cons
1. people do not move if they're hogging the sidewalk- you have to walk in the street with the cars and the dog shit
2. no one responds if you knock on the bathroom door. sorry girl but i'm going to open it if you don't make it known that you're in there.
3. no toilet seats, but we've covered that
4. sometimes having no idea what anyone is saying
5. no weed. (skipped meals, anxiety, and nightmares....i need it)
6. dvd player is broke on comp (no mad men, no planet earf, no lotr)
7. people with bad teeth who talk to much
8. sushi-to-go-and-tv-all-day-day is impossible
9. having to carry all my groceries from the store to my dorm can be a hassle
10. guys are douche bags mostly
11. no hulu
12. no baths
13. the fact that i will eventually have to leave...
14. EVERYTHING IS CLOSED ON SUNDAY. even the grocery stores. its bullshit.

whatever

School: grammar, art history, writing comprehension (something like that), language (required and kind of bs), oral expression- didn't go to litterature because i'm lazy. teachers are really nice. millions of asians in my classes.

8 o'clocks three days of the week. walking to class in the freezing weather. lunch, nap, dinner. the occasional shower, lots of sleep. thats about it. went to a bar called "soft." it was very relaxed and nice. i wish i had a snuggly man throne to ride on throughout the city to keep me warm.

met a boy from oregon. he was really nice and said he'd make a point to remember my name. thats kind of cute? it was the most exciting thing that happened to me today. aside from eating a whole pack of foie gras just before dinner. still have half a bottle of wine left from last week, very impressive. apparently i dont use complete sentences anymore. this is a terrible blog post.

bought my bonnaroo ticket. hoping the lineup gets better. but i'm just excited about the experience and being able to wear my new fashionable spring clothes from france. "lookin like a runway up in this field n shit." zara and h&m better watch out.

gypsys hang out and ask for money. i just say "blah blah i dont know" and walk away. about to tape up nature pics on my walls. will post pics later. this weekend i might do a photo shoot of the town if its sunny and not too cold. really ready for spring. i have a 2 week break in april so if anyone has time off and wants to travel with me....open invitation. life's pretty boring without ganja. how do i ask the french girls if they smk?

might take a trip to st. malo and mont st. michel and some caves next weekend, even though i've already seen the first two places. the xx is playing in nantes this weekend but not sure if i care enough- i mean they're playing bonnaroo. might as well save up for paris or something..? theres one venue here that seems to be the hip spot and only the plastiscines are playing. bullshit. theres a movie theatre here called les 400 coups (the 400 blows) that plays good american movies that arent dubbed. i'll be seeing the fantastic mr. fox, shutter island, an education, and a single man later this month.

new dr. dog song is pretty good. been listening to some broad named holly miranda too. dreamy. mmm almost time for dinner. i want a big dog that smells like a sweaty man to lay in bed with me.

love you all,
sara

ps. finally bought stamps, postcards will come soon enough

bathrooms

bon. d'accord. here we go!
going to the bathroom in france is an adventure, number 1 or 2. in my dorm i've found only one salle de bain with a toilet seat. the holes are there, so that leads me to think that they've intentionally removed them? i'm not into that, as i've fallen in a few times already.

toilet paper is also very interesting. apparently if its not white its scented. sabrina bought some black toilet paper today (for drake as a joke) that smells like a cologned rapist. she also bought me my own little four pack of pink toilet paper that smells like a flower. she was unsatisfied with the thickness of the paper at the dorm so decided i needed my own. i'm a fucking princess, and now my ass smells like one too. its embarassing carrying your own toilet paper, so i've been peeking out of my huge door and running to the bathrooms, placing a roll in each around the foyer. i am the toilet paper fairy.

i've begun to get a feel for the dynamic around here. theres an older nun, who is sweet as can be, and a younger one (her 51st birthday was today if that tells you how old the other one is...) who seems to be the "hip" one. she says merde (shit) and jokes around with the girls and text messages. they both talk to me really slowly because i have this permanent "i have no idea what you're saying" look on my face. some of the girls here are kind of mean. example- last night at dinner everyone was quiet at my table because i was throwing of the vibe with my foreignness. i reached for the pepper shaker, and then they all started laughing? but tonight we sat with some cool talkative girls. one was kind of slurring her words together- i'm quite hopeful about that friendship.

my university is really small but very cute. everyone seems to be very helpful. saw johnny depp's doppelganger today on campus. also very hopeful about that.
my bed is hard as a rock, and i desperately need a massage. pickup line?

sleep tight babies,
sara

feb 2nd

first things first. pictures. not sure about this layout. but theres a picture of the door to my dorm, a picture of the view from my window (note the garden below and the cathedral in the distance), and one of my room. maybe not. but i'll leave that decision up to you. so its safe to say my room is gorgeous. thats just about the best thing going for me. communal showers are the situation for me, kind of weird but oh well. i dont really shower anymore anyway.
finally met up with porter today (shout out!) which was so refreshing. because the girls here are very intimidating and very fluent in french because hmm they're fucking natives. whatever. got yelled at by some bitches today, walked around, spoke broken french, found a comic book store (highlight of the day probably). i think i'll really like this town eventually.
trying to give this owen pallett cd a chance. i think i might also really like that. send me some new music. i can only listen to grizzly bear's the boy from school so many times a day...
ps. smoked a cig in front of sabrina last night. thought she was gonna die.
y'all seriously send me yer addresses. i found the post office so now its MAIL TIME!
l8er
pps. i just farted so loud i think the girl next door heard it....
much luv,
sara
